Fitness to practise

Whether you’re are an employer, registered worker or someone looking to apply you can find out about our fitness to practise process and your responsibilities and how to make a complaint about a worker.

What is fitness to practise?

Fitness to practise is about protecting and enhancing the safety and welfare of people who use services.

We must be sure that people on our Register meet the standards of character, conduct and competence necessary for them to do their job safely and effectively in line with the SSSC Codes of Practice.

Raising a concern with us

We regulate people working in social services to make sure that you can have confidence they have the right skills, values and training to do the job.

We consider concerns about registered workers and students and people applying to register with us.

Our investigation process

In this section you can More about our investigation process, what we expect from employers and registered workers, higher education institutions (HEIs) and students and what we can tell you about an investigation.

Hearings

This section contains information about Fitness to Practise Panel impairment hearings taking place in the next seven days.

Decisions

This section includes information about decisions from both Fitness to Practise Panel hearings and decisions made by SSSC officers.

Temporary Orders

Temporary Orders suspend a workers registration and/or impose conditions on their registration until the allegations against them are investigated.

Who is the SSSC and what do we do?

This video explains who the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) is and what we do.

Did you know there are around 200,000 people working in social services across Scotland? This means that one in every 13 people employed in Scotland currently work in social services.

Most people working in social services in Scotland will be registered with the SSSC. Some won't be registered yet but will over the next few years.

If you require text transcripts of any of our videos, please contact us to discuss your requirements.
